Flying without a Helicopter

From the Book Corner … here is a guide for parents, educators, managers, and young adults.

As a talent management expert, career coach, and author, Dr. Joanie Connell takes a unique view of our Millennials entering the workforce.  She not only reviews what it takes to succeed in the workforce and life today, but how these skills are developed (or not) before a young adult leaves home.

Dr. Connell takes a personal and professional view of the challenges and opportunities parenting styles have on setting our future generation up for success or failure.  Flying without a Helicopter is a take-off on the “helicopter parent” – one who hovers over their child by orchestrating their lives so much that their child fails to learn valuable life skills once they are on their own.  The book explores solutions to some of the lacking life skills followed by reflective questions and practical action steps anyone could take to help develop those skills needed to better survive at work and in life.

As a parent and life coach, I have a passion for helping our youth develop into more independently successful adults.  I highly recommend Dr. Connell’s book, Flying without a Helicopter: How to Prepare Young People for Work and Life.  Parents, educators, managers, and young adults can gain knowledge and practical tips to apply now.
